Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate and qualify the unsteady flow behavior in a complete 6-bladed axial fan and its impact on the noise generation. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis based on the Scale-Adaptive Simulation (SAS) turbulence model has been carried out, taking into account the complex environment of the axial fan. Additionally, the unsteady variables provided by the numerical simulations have been employed in the Ffowcs-Williams and Hawkings (FW-H) model in order to predict the far field radiated sound at various locations. On the other hand, the numerical results have been compared to the measurement data at the near field.
